CSR, the contribution from a small family business Quaryat Dillar

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) generally refers to company led initiatives that have a positive impact on the community and environment (social and natural) in which it operates. It is a broad concept that covers areas ranging from the environment to working conditions to consumers rights.

Quaryat Dillar, in spite of being a small family business, has been implementing a CSR strategy for some time based around delivering benefits for the environment and our local community through environmental no harm practices and educational and sponsoring roles. We take responsibility for our business practices and we do so by acting on these two main fronts.

Quaryat social and environmental CSR

Quaryat EVOOs are an Andalusian Natural Park food product, meaning we are committed to the sustainability of our precious natural surroundings. However, we don’t stop there and our business practices on the groves are a key part of our concerns. We certify our products to either Organic or Producción Integrada standards, offering the highest level of protection for environment and consumers. Besides, we practice conservation agriculture by growing different crops in a bid to preserve the local species of vegetation and wildlife. Growing white poplars or almonds for example increases biodiversity and benefits the area as a whole.

Quaryat Dillar milling facilities also contribute positively with no harm practices in the management of the industry most polluting byproducts. Water for example -both rainwater and water used during fruit processing- is carefully cleaned up via a series of cascading ponds and then reused to water the fields. An interesting synergy has developed with local shepherds who clear up all remaining leaves from the cleaning stage to feed their animals during harvest. The pits, already grinded to gravel grain size during milling get burnt and provide hot water while climatising our facilities and cellar with no additional CO2 being generated.

None of the above is done to the detriment of the quality of our products. We produce some of the finest EVOOs in the world as we take the same pride in all we do and, when is ready to bottle, we have recently changed the material our labels are printed on -less polluting and easier to recycle.

Quaryat Dillar’s CSR is also socially minded. We look to improve the world we live in by remembering those most in need. We regularly donate to food banks to help users cope with a challenging life in the hope to make society a better place for everyone.

This isn’t just a list, and as such it would always be incomplete, they are manifest footprints of a desire to be a driver for preservation and healthy leaving and we aim to keep working at it.
