Sustainability is part of our life and our way of working at the Almazara Quaryat Díllar, a family project growing in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. Here we feel proud of what we do: we take care of the land, invest in our surroundings, and move forward toward a sustainable family business model that leaves a positive footprint on our community.

From the very beginning, we decided to align ourselves with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
Today we would like to share how we contribute, through real actions, to SDGs 3, 8, 12, 15, and 17.

What does sustainability mean for the Almazara Quaryat Díllar?

For us, sustainability is a way of life. We try to make every step count:

• We consume water and energy responsibly in all our processes.
• The local community is key, so we actively promote the use of its products to support it.
• Under the care of our team, we protect the biodiversity of the unique Sierra Nevada environment.
• Finally, we promote a model of olive oil tourism that deeply respects nature’s rhythms.

We firmly believe that if you take care of the land, the land will take care of you. This family philosophy is the foundation of everything we do.

Our contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being

To begin with, our commitment to well-being starts with the environment. At our olive mill we offer outdoor experiences, olive oil tourism visits with tastings, and activities that allow people to reconnect with nature. The pure air of Sierra Nevada in Granada and the tranquility of the countryside are perfect allies for improving the physical and emotional health of our visitors.

In addition, we produce extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) under Organic Production and Integrated Production standards, in a way that respects the environment. EVOO is the foundation of the Mediterranean diet, helping us improve and care for our health.

SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

In addition to caring for the health of our visitors, our olive mill acts as an economic driver. Being a family project in Sierra Nevada means investing in the territory and in people.

At Quaryat Díllar:

• We generate stable local employment, helping to retain population in rural and depopulated areas of Spain.
• We collaborate with local producers.
• We promote, among other initiatives, sustainable olive oil tourism that boosts the rural economy without losing our essence. We work with various local businesses, from the bakery that makes our bread to, for larger visits, the local rural hotel. All of them, like us, are family-run and local businesses accredited with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.

SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production

Our commitment to responsible production lies at the heart of our olive mill:

• We use water efficiently, reusing all the water from the production process and even rainwater to irrigate the surrounding olive groves.
• We optimize energy consumption by implementing LED lighting throughout our facilities; installing solar panels to charge the company’s electric vehicles; and using olive pits as fuel for our biomass boiler, which provides both hot water and heating (with a neutral CO₂ balance).
• We reduce waste and prioritize local suppliers. For example, in our olive oil tourism activities we only use reusable glassware and cutlery.

We share all of this through our olive oil tourism activities, showing how conscious production improves both EVOO quality and environmental impact.

SDG 15 – Life on Land

Living in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park (Granada) is a responsibility. We take care of every corner:

• We protect native flora and fauna by not using insecticides or herbicides in our olive groves.
• We plant aromatic species that promote biodiversity and offset the carbon footprint of our activities.

Our goal is clear: to preserve this unique environment for those who come after us.

We know that progress toward sustainability is a journey that cannot be taken alone. That is why at Quaryat Díllar we collaborate with projects, local companies, and associations committed to the territory.
